257 is your new gun stainless, or blue, and what is the stock grey, or brown laminate or synthetic?

Get any of the Sightrons (Big Sky or SIII preferred) that Ur friend mentioned.  OR get THIS exact scope from the Samplelist.  If I had $659.95 (it was originally ($912.00) to spend, I'd have a hard time finding a better one for the money.  Plus the manufacturer will stand behind it forever.

Buy it then come back and tell us how great it is.

Rifle the barrel is stainless and had brown walnut stock. I have decided on Sightron in either the 4.5x14 with HHR  or 4x16 with duplex  trying to decide which be best in low light

Good call.  I like the 4x16 with target knobs on mine.  If you won't be using a rangefinder and "dialing in" then get the HHR.

Here are the true reticle dimensions, cut and pasted from Sightron's website.  The HHR looks damn good for low light to me.

Reticle Dimensions
* all measurements in inches (IN)
Min Power
A 3.89
B 2.33
C .31
D 3.11
E .62
F .62
G 54.44
H 54.44
I 7.78
J 17.11
K 29.56
Max Power
A 1.25
B .75
C .10
D 1.00
E .20
F .20
G 17.50
H 17.50
I 2.50
J 5.50
K 9.50

Reticle Dimensions
* all measurements in inches (IN)
Min Power
A 30
B .50
C 2.0
Max Power
A 7.5
B .125
C .50

As you can see, even the dot in the center of the HHR is heavier than the thickest part of the posts in the duplex.

The scope you're looking at has a reticle in the second focal plane (also the most common with U.S. scopes).  Go to this link and it will explain how reticles react with changes in magnification.
