I am trying to get some ideas together for Christmas.  My brother-in-law is a hunter and I would like to get him some binoculars. Something in the range of 6-8x32-42. He does not havnig any good scopes and doesn't own any binos. He owns scopes like barska and centerpoint. Just whatever is cheapest.  Are there any binos that are useful for under a 100?

The Yosemite Coyote linked pretty well defines "good deal in optics for around $100".  The Nikon Action porros are pretty good too, but they aren't weatherproof.  What I would REALLY reccommend  is that you look at is a set of Zen Ray Vista 8x42 roofs.  Those are about $130 and are probably the roof prism equivalent of the porro Yosemites.  SWFA, the site sponsor here is a Zen Ray dealer.

You need to spend a little bit more than $100.

$100 is definitely my limit. I have looked in the sample list, but havent seen anything yet. I ll keep watching, but if not I cant find a great deal there, I  might get the Leupold yosemite.

The Yosemite is more than "useable."  It is quite serviceable.

If the baseline optics for your BIL is Barska, the Yosemite will be MANY levels above it. My wife has the 6x30 and loves it.

There are now quite a few variations of the Yosemite on the Market.  The Celestron Nature, Kowa has one, and even Barska is in the game.  They call it the Crossover and it comes in x30 and x42 mm designs.  Less than $100 by a fair ways too.  The BIL might feel right at home with one Big Smile

The Barska version is of course sourced from the same place as the Yosemite, but the extra $ for the Leupy is worth it for the better Quality Control and warranty.

Barska's QC is suspect at best, from what I have seen.

Amen Bitteroot, amen.
I have given away quite a few Leupold Yosemite's in 6x30 and they seem to hold up very well, good optics to boot.
Just as an example, a four year old and eight year old have not been able to wreck theirs yet, a tougher test would be hard to find.
Four year old dragged hers through a mud puddle and they still work.
What more can you expect?

For under $100, the Leupold Yosemite 6x30 is an excellent choice.
