hello all,

im looking for a bit of advice on buying a new set of binoculars please.

im looking for a set of binoculars which are rugged, waterproof, have a good field of vision, and are reasonably light, and are able to be used in lower light conditions.

after doing some research the zen ray ed2 8x43, hawke frontier ed 8x43, and the vortex fury 8x42 have all had some good reviews. is there much to choose between these 3, or is there any others which i might of over looked?

thanks very much

dave

The Zen and Hawke are near-clones, while the fury is noticeably behind in performance.

The Hawke might be easier to get in the UK.  They are near clones except the Hawke is a near clone of the original ZEN ED.  The difference in the ED 2 and the Hawke Frontier is the dielectric prism coating and a different focus rate and feel.  Both have water and oil repelling coatings on the lenses.

Between the ZEN ED 1 and 2, you nearly have to have them side by side to see there is a small difference in color and brightness favoring the ED 2.

They are indeed both a step above the Fury.  I do have some Fury's and they are good glass to be sure, but their color is a bit washed out compared to the ZEN.  I have never seen a Hawke.
