I have a Vortex Nomad 20-60X80. I'm thinking of maybe upgrading.
How much scope would it take, and how much money would I have to spend, to get a significantly better view of red-tailed hawks nesting 250 yards away?

Certainly it would not be hard to better the view of a Nomad. I bet that even a Vortex Viper HD will easily meet your requirements. Others that quickly come to mind are the Pentax PF80ED and the Kowa 66mm w/Prominar XD lens and 25x eyepiece. Both will get you there for less money than the Razor (certainly the Razor is a good choice too). If size is an issue, you might also look into the Leupold GR 60mm HD and the Pentax PF65 body along with one of their high-end fixed-power or zoom lenses.

Also look at the Theron Mag82 ED and the Bushnell Elite 80mm as well.....

Of course there is the Meopta S2 at $2K, the Kowa 883 at $3K, and the Swaro ATX at $4K to round out your top-shelf choices.  Big Smile
