Would there be much if any difference in the glass of a Leupld VX-3, Nikon Monarch, or the Burris Signature Select? |

Not really, though every one's eyes are different.

Actually I can see a difference between them and I like the new improved VX3 FX3 glass pretty good but I really like the Zeiss Conquest glass with second place going to the Bushnell 4200 glass and the Leupold VX3 about tied but more spendy. You really need to lay them side by side to see what you are getting and part of what you are getting is the basic configuration of power range and the selection of specialty reticles as well as style of knobs. Sometimes special features like illumination play a big part in percieved value and I very much like Trijicon's illuminated reticle scopes that use both fiber optic and tritium for an always turned on illumination. As far as the Nikon and Burris my opinion is skewed by experience with them as I have had as many bad Burris scopes as good ones so not a high success rate. I recently traded off a Nikon Omega to get better glass however the Monarch glass is much better than the Omega. I still own a small fortune worth of Nikon camera lenses so I am familiar with their better glass. Still if I was after a basic scope with great glass Zeiss 3-9x40 is pick of the litter but when you start into special features you find that even some other new to the market scopes like the 3-9x42 Super Sniper really are the best you can find for their price range and type of use.

I am looking to spend around $550 for a scope for my deer rifle. This rifle is my only deer rifle and will be used for shots from 10 yards to 400 yards. I began thinking that the vx-3 with cds would be the best bet but the thought of the dial getting accidentally turned and taking a quick shot without a chance to check it scares me. I think I am going to to with a scope with max power of 10 and a holdover reticle. I like the Burris but it is heavy, the Nikon looks like the best all around value but I am not crazy about the circles, the vx-3 with boone anc crockett looks ok but not sure about the glass and value. I also looked at the sightron s-ii big sky but had one of the earlier s-ii and wasn't really impressed with the glass. I am missing any options?
Thanks for your thoughts.
