I've got some high dollar scope and binoculars that I've recently bought and was wondering what is the best and safest way to clean the lenses without scratching the lenses.  I've tried the lenspens and they still don't come close to cleaning the lenses, they leave swirls on the lenses.  Any products or methods anybody could recommend?  Thanks!

End of the page SWFA's Chris Farris describes their method.

Use an optics brush to remove all the debris first, even if you use a scope cleaning kit and use one of the wipes first. If theres any dirt on the lens you well cause small scratches.I have seen this happen, always use the brush first then use the pre moisten wipes.

Has anyone tried using urethane foam swabs instead of cotton for cleaning. I've been thinking of trying some out. Seems like less lint and particulate contamination.

Absolutely correct....... great advice, only addition is that you should only use a solution that is designed for coated glass lenses. I use Birchwood Casey, and the Leupold lens pen. Always clean the lens pen after use as well, and keep it capped.
