I use a SS normally as far out as 300 yds. 80% of the time only 100 yds.

I do not wish to spend a lot as that extra $$ is going into a Range Finder - Leica. However I do not wish for a piece of junk either (some brands at other sites $55...). I also desire a set up w/ case and tripod....

Anyway what do you suggest?

Let me clarify one thing. I already have a Swarovski  for field use. My RF was stolen 3 weeks ago at a local range and I do not wish for my SS to suffer rhe same fate.

The SS I desire will only be used at a local range w/ a max range of 300 yds. So what is a good valye?

I'm not a spotting scope expert or anything, but I have a bushnell spacemaster 15-45 that I can easily see 22 cal holes on any type of target at 200 yards.  That's the extent of my local range, but I imagine 300 would be doable, if that's a word.  They can be purchased with a case and a bench stand for under 300, I think.

That would be $334 more than they are worth. I have not looked through that particular model, but two others of similar design.
For $350 you can get a Vortex/Stokes Sandpiper, which was rated as one of the best moderately priced spotting scopes.

This just doesn't make any sense to me.  It reminds me of my brother who just recently bought a Lexus because it is such a "superior automobile" and then rented a little crappy Jeep Liberty for a trip he was taking because he didn't want to put the miles on his prize car.   To which I thought, why buy the car if you won't drive it anywhere?

I would think you would be far better off just being a little more cautious with your things while at your local range - either that or find a different, less "dangerous" range to frequent.
