I like my Bushnel 6-24x50 4200 elite, but it is only the second scope I have ever owned.  The first being a Simmons.

A little bit more that 700 but this would be my pick with the budget presented.

This one is realy nice but more money.

Exactly what I would have suggested the 2.5-10 IOR Tactical

The only other thing you might find would be something on Samplelist in the used scope section.

I like the 6-24x50 as a choice for the next scope on my varmint AR but if you're doctrinally talking man-size targets, you'd be good with a scope typical for for .308 bolt guns (6-24x is nice for small furry critters)....I like my 3.5-10x Leupy on my .308 700P but it always stays on 10x (mostly because the mildots are calibrated there) so if you want a variable, I would suggest the IOR, or possibly the Nikon tactical if you can find one on the SL to meet your price point, if you're also or mainly looking at a scope to shoot smaller (varmint-size) targets, I'd look at the 6-24x Elite or something more in between (if you can shop around and find them on SL or pay the extra), like

The Meopta R1 tac is a very nice scope with very good glass but what I do not like about it is the fine adjustments,

I remember they were something like 1/8 or 1/10 MOA.

I believe they are 1/4...or thats what I remember reading here in the last few days.  Since I'm really looking at the optic and I have found it for 600 NIB

Ah yes, had the adjustments confused with another scope there. It is 7MM at 100M not exactly 1/4MOA but close.

Try the Super Sniper i got the 20x42 fixed... took it out and it shot extremely well for under $300....   Saves you extra dough to buy the badger ordnance rings and mounts...

I was looking at the Meopta but I was really wishing they had gone FFP like the 3-12x56....I asked if they could put the tactical knobs on different scopes (like the 3-12x) and they said no.  I found one on closeout at a local hunting shop (they were dropping Meopta) but it was duplex...no mildots, so I check back with Meopta to see if they can change the reticle (because I can live without FFP if the price is right) and they said no reticle mods....so I'm back to the Elite 6-24x for my AR...the Zeiss would be VERY sweet though,

6-24x is just too much magnification IMHO.

     Hi,

For what you are looking for,  take a look at the Millett TRS-1.  They're selling for $399 on this web site and are well worth the money.  To tell the truth,  I wasn't  a big fan of Millet scopes in the past but after testing the TRS-1, I'm impressed.  I tried everything I could think of to get this scope to mess up and couldn't.  I mounted it on a 338/378 Weatherby,  338 Lapua Mag,  300 Win Mag,  6.5/06,  308 Win and 223 Rem.  The scopes that the Millett was up against were the Swarovski 6-24 Professional Hunter,  Nightforce 12-42 BR,  Leupold 8.5-25 & 6.5-20 Target scopes,  Tasco Custom 8-40.  The only scope to out preform the Millett was the Swarovski.  To be fair,  after I finished shooting the Millett on the 338/378 Weatherby the front scope base screws were loose.  It still shot a 3 shot 1" group at 200yds.

I just finished testing another Millett on my 338 Lapua Mag and really outperformed my Leupold by quite a bit.  I now have the Millett mounted on my 338 and it isn't coming off!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't care what name is on the scope as long as it works when I need it.  I have some of the top end scopes and the Millett is right there with them if not leading the pack.  Most of my friends who have used my rifles have gotten their own Millett scopes.  I can think of 6 right off the top of my head.  For what you are looking for in your price range, give the Millett TRS-1 a try.  Take it from someone who has wasted more money on scopes than I care to admit.

Catch you later,

The Big Dog

I see that millet has 1/8 moa which I am not fond of when it comes time to go long distance. How much internal adjustment does it have?  Is there a reason that the side focus knob is as large as it is?

As far as I can tell it takes a lot of money to buy a better scope than a 10x Super Sniper.

Have you seen this? It's not $700, more like $1200-I'd save up for it. Try Burris XTR 30mm tube, illuminated reticle from bigrivertactical.com $668?

Hello

the reason for the large side focus knob is it allows accurate adjustment for range and we calibrate the range knob out to 500 yrds so it works as a poor mans rangefinder and with  the large knob its easy to turn.

The adjustments are 1/8 in. and there is over 94 moa.

hope this info is helpfull. we print all of our manual for the TRS on the web site.   www.millettsights.com

good shooting

Steve

If you are LEO or military, Leupold has a serious discount on optics.
