Hello everyone!

New to the forums and somewhat new to riflescopes. Big Grin I've been reading the forum posts and checking out different scopes that will hopefully fit my needs without going over budget. What I would like from all you experts out there is to help me in deciding which scopes will best fit my needs. And they are as follows:

BUDGET
- $1000 (may spend another 100 or so if it's REALLY worth it)

POWER/RANGE
- This will be going on my SHTF 308 so it needs to be accurate enough to engage man-sized targets in CQB to Mid-Range (500 yards)
- Lowest power being 1-1.5x and highest power being 5-7x (no 1-4)

RETICLE
- Illuminated Reticle
- MOA or Mil reticles are preferred. No German #4 etc. or specific BDC (like the 5.56) of that nature

TURRETS
- Capped or Uncapped is fine although the more I think about it, capped (or even locking) would be nice if I'm taking it through the mud/dirt
- Turrets with the tactical number/designations
- Zero stop would be great but what what I've seen, I'd have to pay quite a bit more for this feature

FEATURES
- I'd like FFP, however SFP is still fine as long as the reticle is somewhat useable at CQB-100 yards
- 30mm preferred

The scopes I've been looking at so far have been:

http://swfa.com/Leupold-15-5x20-Mark-4-MRT-30mm-Riflescope-P45043.aspx

http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-HD-1-6x24-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P53845.aspx

Sightron 1-7 IRMOA (I don't think SWFA carries this model yet)

I know this is quite a lot to request, but I really do appreciate any and all feedback/assistance you guys can give me with this! Cool

The SS 1-6 HD would be my choice based upon your stated requirements.  It is superior in every category you mentioned.   I currently have a 1-4 on my AR-10, but am probably going to move up to the SS 1-6. In that group, there is not evan another scope under my consideration.

+3 for the SWFA 1-6x24.

SWFA SS 1-6x24 is probably the way to go in your price range if you want FFP.

I have been playing with one since it came out and I am very impressed.  That is the scope on my SHTF rifle.

In the sub-$1k range there are not that many competitors.  Of the SFP designs, Leupold's VX-6 multi-gun scope is very nice.

Definitely the SS 1-6, SWFA's scopes are next to bomb proof. Its got most of what you mentioned (minues a zero stop), and in my opinion Leupolds are overpriced.
Easy come easy go

Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.

Well I guess that settles it! I'll be giving the SWFA 1-6 a try once funds allow. Needless to say my wife is less than thrilled that I'm going to be dropping so much into a scope, but I'm sure once I get it and she sees the real world application of what it will do for my rifle, she'll be at least a little more accepting of it haha Big Grin

Now if anybody knows any shops in AZ that actually carry the SWFA so I can get a feel for it before I drop $1k, that would be awesome! Wink

SWFA is the sole vendor for their scopes, unless you are buying one used.

I have had a bunch of their scopes over the years and have been perfectly satisfied with all of them.  I still own two and really enjoy using them.  Great scopes.
Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

As long as you don't mount it on a rifle, you can return it with no penalty... shipping is on you, I think, but I don't know because I've never returned anything I bought from them.

Can't comment on the 1-6x yet, but all SS's I have owned or fooled with have met and exceeded my expectations.
I don't recall any negative "blow back" reported on the 1-6x SS on this forum or anywhere else, Brother.
Quite the contrary.

While I don't have a 1-6, I have several SS scopes, and I am in AZ and willing to show them off. Where you located, k?
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?
