Looking for the best spotting scope for $500 and under, uses include hunting and family camping/sight seeing. Are there any that you can connect to a camera?

The Bausch and Lomb Discoverer 15-60X60mm retails for around $230. It can be connected to an SLR camera with the addition of a T-Mount and the Discoverer Telephoto adapters (cost around $20 each) I have been able to get great pictures from my Discoverer using a Canon EOS Digital Rebel. The only downside is that the Discoverer is rather large and heavy, so it is not really comfortable for any kind of backpacking.
If you want a good scope that is also really small you should look at the Leupold Gold Ring Spotters in either 10-20X40mm or 15-30X40mm (? might be 50mm, I don't recall) Neither will attach to your camera, but are fine scopes nonetheless. I have the former (smaller) one and have been thrilled with it. |

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

Bushnell Elite or Kowa are very nice in that price range.

Is the Kowa camera adaptable? If so are the adapters readily available? Price? I also have a cannon eos rebel.

I could be wrong, but I do not believe the Kowas are camera adaptable. You could also look at the B&L Elite or the various Nikon offerings. I am pretty sure these are camera adaptable (though not completely positive so you would have to verify it) and can be had for around the price range you are looking at. They are both good spotters.
