Looking for a good scope to put on my .300wsm. In your opinion what would be an ideal magnification range? Realistically, I plan to keep most shots 300 yards or less. It will be a hunting rifle for deer and african plains game. I've got a swaro av 4-12x50 sitting here at the house - but am still considering other options? Looking at swaro z6 2-12x50 and zeiss diavari 2.5-10x42. What are yalls thoughts?

you think the 2.5-10x42 would be a better option over the 50mm objective scopes by allowing for better gun mounting/check weld/accuracy? Anyone think a 4-12x50 is over kill on the magnification?

I have come to like the 40 - 44 mm bells just so the scope sits lower and I have a better cheek weld on the rifles.  Also at the ranges you are going to shoot, you don't need more that 10x.  I would lean towards the Zeiss myself, although I was very very very impressed with the Z6 I tested.  Both are great scopes.  I would love to be able to afford one.

I have the Zeiss Diavari 2.5-10x42.  I can find no reason I would need a larger objective.  It is a great scope.  After I ordered it, before I got it, I thought "why didn't I go ahead and the 50 objective?".  I've never regretted it since I got the scope.  I was looking at Swarovski as well, never regretted not getting that, either.

I found the the medium Warne vertical split scope mounts will allow me to mount my 3.5-10x50mm Kahles scope on my .340  Weatherby at the same height as the 42mm scope that I had there before.  You may wish to consider this.

The Zeiss sits a little lower because of the 42mm objective offering a possible better cheek weld which could give you an advantage with longer shots.

The z6 has excellent FOV and a little better power range (x12 power is not "overkill"). The 50mm objective is slightly brighter and there should be no issue mounting it.

Both are some of the best of the best and your splitting hairs when it comes to which is better optically.

IMHO, your current Swaro AV is just fine unless you have money to burn.

I say you should get the zeiss.....and then mail me the swaro thats just "sitting at the house" ! ...seriously, all 3 are great choices and I dont see how you could go wrong with any of them.
