Dots come in basically two types- those with mounts on the scope and the smaller tubes which require some type of scope mount. If you use Ruger rings you will be limited to the 1" types. Brownells offers a ruger pistol base that has a weaver rail which allows the larger type to be used. Several of the dots I tried lasted about 1/2 a shooting session with the Casuall Redhawk I used- but they were the cheap kind. Personally I think the low power scopes work better, faster and are about the same size. If I were to go with a dot it would be a C-More although they are more $$ they have a good reputation on IPSC guns, known for heavy abuse.

454 C has plenty of recoil so you want something tough my first thought is a Burris 1x Short Mag.  The Aimpoint scopes are a good scope because they are not adversely affected by where your head is in comparison to the scope. Your eye not being in the same place each time can cause some of the low price red dots to not give a repeatable point of impact. Case in point I have a tasco red dot on a cross bow and your head better be in the same spot if you want the bolt to strike point of aim, set it on a table move your head and watch where the red dot goes when the scope is still and you move your head.

Possibly Chris can tell us if the EOTech will work - It seems like it would be good choice  compact and  tough and I know I've seen some on .45 acp's
