I'd like a very good set of porro prisms in 10 x 50. Have some great roof prisms from Leica but won't leave them in the vehicle and am not ready to spend quite that much again. Often I'm driving and want to stop to look at ducks, geese, deer, etc. and don't have anything handy. Might get my oldest son a nice set for Christmas now that he's in college.

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to keep it under or at $500. I'm curious about some Nikon's, Steiners and IOR's but have not idea what's a good value. The under $150 cost of the Nikon's is quite attractive, but looking around in the store is of some, but little use. Everything looks bright and clear in a store.

The best porros on the market IMO are the Nikon SE's. Awesome depth of field, contrast is excellent, and sharp as a tack are some good descriptions for the Nikon SE's. Optically they are in the elite if not the most elite but one drawback is that they are not waterproof if this matters much to you.

Nikon SE's are the best, but out of his price range.  See my post on the Leupold Cascades Porros last week.  They make a 10X42.  Do you really need 10X
