Soliciting opinions for best mount for a 3-screw (only one hole on rear receiver bridge) Remington Model 7. Would a one-piece base be better, to prevent the rear mount from twisting?

The mount will most likely hold a 3-9x40 Zeiss Conquest.

Many thanks, and Happy New Year!

Daryl

Yes, I would say a one piece mount would prevent any twisting.  I've got a newer 4 screw Model 7 and had Leupolds 2 piece base and rings before converting to Talleys one piece base (3 screw) and fixed ring system from SWFA recently.  Nothing wrong with the Leupold bases and rings, did a good job for over 5 years.  The built in windage adjustment on the Leupold might prove to be very useful in fact.  My receiver appears to be drilled on center and I had no problem sighting in my rifle with the Talleys though.  The Talley is more expensive but I believe the Talley is made better, solid as a rock.  Talley shipped me out a whole new set of screws for the rings when I emailed them about getting one new screw for one that I chewed up a little, all for no charge.  Great customer service from Talley.

Many thanks for the advice, here and on the other post, Badger.

The Talley/Conquest combo looks to be a real winner.

Ya, if you had 4 screws for the base I would'nt hesistate on the Talley Lightweight aluminum mounts, many good things said about them here and i don't think you can beat the price.  They were backordered when I tried to buy em.

Talley's steel fixed ring system goes for about $100 here including shipping.  I like the look of the vertically split ring also others may not.  All in all a good deal I think if you look at the few other options and how the Talleys are built.

Thanks for the pic, badgerRed! Beautiful!

What ring height are you using with the Talleys? Conetrol also make a mount for this rifle and recommend their medium height rings.

Those are Talley's low rings.  Plenty of objective bell to barrel clearance but not excessive.  The low Leupold mounts I had before sat lower than the Talleys, but I still prefer the Talleys.  Conetrol has excellent mounts too, that would be interesting to see a setup with Conetrols.  How does the price compare between the Talley fixed and Conetrol's?

Glad you like the pic.

$29.98 more for the Conetrol system.

Talley fixed rings (pair): $59.95

Talley one-piece base: $29.95

Conetrol "Huntur" rings (pair): $59.94

Conetrol "Huntur" base: $59.94

Pimped-out, .308 bolt-action carbine: Priceless!

I think I will go with the Conetrol. I like the projectionless design, among other features. I'll post pics when done.

My stick is a blued, 18.5" version with wood stock. It currently wears a Galco Ching Sling and leather buttstock ammo cuff. Down the road, I may put one of the Badger Ordnance oversize bolt knobs on it.

Indeed!!  Made many a hunt successful!

Thanks for the price comparison.  Didn't think the Conetrols were priced that competetively to the Talleys.  Man, hard to go wrong with either one.  Please do post some pics.
