Scope- Leupold VXIII 4.5-14X40 Currently has the Varmit Reticle

Rifle Dude was right and I'm not happy with it.To Thin.Thinking about sending it to Leupold to have a different reticle installed. If I don't find a good trade at the Gunshow next weekend.

Want opinions of the best reticle for Deer Hunting

Choices- German#1,German#4,Duplex,Hvy Duplex

Give me your opinions and why you would pick this one please.

Thanks,

Rock

Of all the non-illuminated reticles I think the German no1 is the best.

It's the thickest and most visiable in low light and it's also the sharpest pointed reticle for small targets/long range shoting.

Any of those would work fine, but I'd probably choose either the German #4 or the Heavy Duplex.  Both would be more visible in low light than the standard duplex.  Technika is correct in saying the #1 is the thickest, and therefore probably the most visible in low light, but does Leupold offer it as an option?  I wasn't aware they did.  I've never used the #1 before, so I can't comment on how suitable it is for small targets and long range, and I probably wouldn't choose it simply because I have no experience with it and I'm not sure whether I'd like it or not.  Even though the vertical post comes to a point at the top, it looks to me as though the post rapidly thickens below the point.  The extremely thick post below the point might obscure a good portion of a small target.  But again, not having used one before, I could be wrong about that.  As a big game hunting reticle, it probably doesn't make much difference anyway, and no doubt it would probably have the best low light visibility, as thick as it is.

Hi

Leupolds offer the No 1 reticle as I have seen a number of scopes with it, or at least they did.

When I shot a rifle at the range at for example 100 yards i normall aim at a black bulletpatch.

The patch is about 3/4x3/4" and with the No4 or heavy duplex it's impossible to aim at the patch as the patch is smaller than the reticle.

With ultra fine target reticles i can choose wisch corner of the patch i want to aim at and same thing with the No1, I can aim at any corner with it.

Birds with a size of a crow is no problem to aim at at 300 meters, but hold over doesent work.

But that doesnt matter to me as I am using a BDC.

Regards Technika
