My friend wants a good pair of binos for his muzzleloader trip to Kansas. I told him my Vortex Razors were great, but he said they are out of his price range. 8x42 or similar should be as big as he would need and he will need good low light performance for deer hunting back in NC. You can put everything I know about optics in a thimble and have planty of room left over so I can't give him any worthwhile advice.

This has probably been beaten to death, but with so many good products out there and changing almost daily; what would be his best choices in the $300 range? I told him the SampleList was the bomb and I have gotten some great deals there.

I did give him one piece of advice. Call SWFA and don't think of going any where else for optics. Knowledgable staff and great customer service.

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Happy hunting!

Have you tried the Bushnell Legend ED's? The price for them online seems to be about $250.

I reckon the only ED Glass you are going to get for under $300 in an 8x42 and the low light performance is pretty good. Comes with a harness as well.

Vortex Diamondback 8x42 is a good bino for the money. Clear, easy to focus, and a stellar warranty.

I would agree about the Bushnell Legend EDs. I have owned two pairs and both offered excellent apparent sharpness in the center of the field of view plus very good brightness and color representation.

Two others to consider would be the Zen Ray ZRS HD and the Sightron Blue Sky SII 8x42. I have owned each of them and can honestly say that their optical performance is well above their respective price tags.
