I just ordered a Ruger 10/22 Target in Stainless and should have it in a few days.  I'm looking for a high-power scope with a top end of 14-35x.    At this price point, I'm not expecting $600 performance, but would like something that offers value, features for this price.  This rifle will be for precision paper punching between 25-100 yards, but mostly in the 50 yard range.  I do plan on upgrading the rifle to get more accuracy, so I need a scope that I won't outgrow.

Recommendations and why?

How about this one here, There are also some other scopes that Swift makes, so look around in there. Swift makes probably the best scopes for the money, there are several here that will swear by them, and the return policy is fantastic.

In this price range, I would probably stay away from scopes with very high magnification.  You may be better off with something of slightly lower magnification, but higher optical quality.  You will actually see better.  Look at Nikon Buckmaster or Bushnell Elite 3200.

If you insist on higher magnification, of the less expensive scopes, I would look at Millett TRS-1 4-16x50.  It is a large scope, but it is sturdy and glass is pretty good.

I ended up with a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40. It came with extra target turrets and 5" sunshade for $340.  I should give it a test run by the end of the week.

Excellent, Pics please...... We love pics. A range report is a nice thing as well, should you have time.

Fixed power doesn't offer me the flexibility.

What's the deal with Sunshades?  I've never used one.  Are these just usefull when shooting from an UN-covered bench?

They are useful when the angle of the sun might cause some abberations, the shade then helps to eliminate this problem.
It also is a useful tool for tactical applications due to the relative elimination of glass flash

Since the bell of the scope has a rounded contour towards the edge, the sunshade doesn't have a clean, streamlined appearance as with other scopes.

This Nikon Buckmaster is not bad at all.  I swapped out the existing turrets with the larger "target" turrets that came with the scope.  There seems to be a more positive "click" when turning.  Also, the markers line up perfectly as opposed to the smaller turrets that were off; though very slightly (but I'm a perfectionist like that).

I'll post some pics once my 10/22T comes in and I've got it all set up.

I guess I should have checked the minimum focusing distance on this Buckmaster.

That is a very nice 10-22. Is the barrel marked as made from someone other than Ruger by any chance?
