Well, I can get a brand new Vortex Viper 2-7x32 (plex)for $170.00 or a brand new Minox ZA 3-9x40(plex) for $280.00. Both are great deals but my question is which is the better value. Is the Minox that much better than the Viper to warrant that much extra cash? I know Vortex has great customer service but Im talking optics and value....I know I should get both but actually dont need either one. Its hard to pass up good deals like these. Anyone have both that can chime in?

To me it (the best value / deal) would be the Vortex.

You can get the Minox for less from SWFA by using our 110% Low Price Guarantee or just buy it from our eBay store.

The deal on the Vipers won't last long because it is a close out deal.

Could someone possibly get a picture of the view through a Viper 2-7x32 with a C3 reticle so I can see how it appears when looking through a scope? Pictures work best for me. Sounds like a good Muzzleloader or Marlin lever action brush gun reticle.

I bought both.  I liked the Vortex so much I returned the Minox (wasn't wild about it) and ordered a Vortex Viper 3-9.  The 2-7 is a good looking scope.  I wish it had a little bigger objective lens and weighed a bit less, but at $170 it's a very good deal.

Wow...you prefered the Viper over the highly rated Minox. What exactly was it you did or didnt like about it compared to the Viper?

You know, optics are a personal preference thing to some degree.  Both scopes were bright and sharp and had resettable turrets.  The Minox wasn't horrible but I didn't like the big silver "Minox" on the sides of the objective lens, nor did I like the high turret caps (I don't think they'll fit well in a rifle scabbard on horse hunts and I wanted to put the scope on an rifle that's going to be in saddle scabbards), and I especially didn't like the mushy clicks on the turrets (maybe it was just my samples but my Vortex has very distinct clicks and my Minox clicks were, well, mushy).  Also, the Vortex BDC reticle just makes a lot of sense - it's clean and easy to use.  It's very similar to the Burris Ballistic Plex but with two windage dots too.  The Vortex BDC scopes come with an explanation telling you at what MOA the dots are placed, so ranging and holdover are pretty simple with a little practice.  The Minox ballistic reticule came with no such explanation.  Now I know I can go to the range and figure out what the Minox hash marks subtend with targets of known sizes at 100 yards, but that's a bit of a PITA.  In my opinion every scope should come with a cheat sheet that tells you exactly what the reticle subtends at 100 yards.  Why would you not include that with a scope?  Last but not least, Vortex reps have been responsive to my inquires about their products.  I like that.  All that said the Minox seemed like a decent scope, especially for what it cost, but the Vortex 3-9 is quite bright and sharp too and I like the reticle a lot - and it cost the same amount.
