I'm looking for a compact scope to be used on an M1a NM out to 700 yds and a .22 trainer out to 200 yds. A magnification range around 2.5-10 would be nice. Ideally it would be illuminated and with a smaller objective, (32mm). The Nightforce 2.5-10X32 would be perfect but is a little out of my price range. I'm looking to spend 700-800 on it.

If I settled for a larger 42mm objective, I would look into the IOR 2.5-10X42 or the SS 3-9X42 but right now I'm trying to keep the size down. Although a 30mm tube is preferred as I already have the mount for it.

I forgot to mention: field of view and a forgiving eyebox of very important and trump clarity as both rifles will be used firing offhand more than supported.

If I can offer a bit of advice: To seriously want to shoot out to 700 yards, you'll need a scope with reliable tracking. So it would either be better to save up the dollars for the NF or get something like the SS 3-9X42. You can do a lot of satisfying shooting with the latter, even if you find that getting out to 700 is stretching the magnification. (Same could be said of the 2.5-10).

That Sample List model, BTW, is a decent deal. Even if the outside of the scope has a little wear on it NF scopes are very reliable. Also, it has matching reticles and turrets as well as zero-stop. And I will say this to anyone ever considering a Compact NXS: Do not buy it without zero-stop. There are no turn indications.
Reaction time is a factor...

Yeah the SS3-9 looks nice, and I've owned and liked super snipers in the past, but one issue is clearing the rear sight. As a recall, the Super sniper line had rather large Oculars. Then again, the IOR seems to as well. The nightforce is considerably smaller, which is why I like it.

The deal on the sample list is not bad at all. I called and Chris could help me out a bit, but in the end, its still way out of reach.

Interestingly, the IORs have about the same retail price as the Nightforce, but can be had for 700-800 used.
