Howdy - Am new to the forum.  I'm an avid hunter mostly Mulies and Elk in Colorado.   Occasionally (actually rarely) do I need a long shot but want to be prepared just in case.  I am looking at Burris (have a great coupon) scopes for my Sako 30-06.  I do like the ballistiplex LRS reticle from a practical standpoint.  I am thinking about the euro diamond 2.5x10x50 in the BP LRS but am also considering the black diamond's and sig selects.

Any thoughts on the best one for me?  any experience with the LRS?  Thanks for the insight,
Mac

I know there are better Burris scopes but this is such a good deal I had to throw it out there.  The 14x gives you the ability to evaluate something several hundred yards  out ( or you can use binoculars or a spotting scope) and make a decision if that is the animal you are interested in.  There are probably more 3-9 scopes out there than anything esle.

Other than that I prefer 30mm scopes which ususlly have more internal adjustment and I like a tactical style scope where I can adjust correction by dialing in compensation for wind and trajectory. Ex 10x Super Sniper.   There are lots of good choice in the Burris line (not the 3-9 short mag though it sucks). I think the illuminated reticle idea is really nice on an aimpoint  1x or 2x and it is occasionally useful close to dark on my 8.5-25 when shooting black targets I can see the red cross hairs but for hunting its more useful on low power scopes and it really runs the price up with some brands. If I had a Burris coupon and didn't need a GPS I might get this one

It all depends on how you hunt  If you can get within 300 yds or so I might go with a 2x Aimpoint.  I have two 1x Aimpoints one 4MOA which works for close range say under 125 yds on a slug gun and a 2MOA Comp M4 on an AR15 which is very workable at 300 yds with open sights.  I really like them

I'm in the market for a similiar set-up, wish I had the "coupon"!

I am by far not the one to give out suggestions, but with those long ranges would one consider the Burris Black Diamond 4x-16x- 50mm or even dare the 6x-24x-50mm (6x-24x does not come in the Bal.Plex which i like also)?

I have both the Black Diamond 4X16-50 and the Sig Select 3X12-44 and feel from many side by side comparisons at 4power, 6power and 10 power. My conclusion is the the Sig Select has a bit better clarity but, I believe there suppose to have the same glass. I like the eye relief on the Sig Select better, and the 4X16-50 is heavier with the 50 mm bell and AO. I have the 4X16-50 on a Tikka Laminated Stainless 22-250 and the 3X12-44 on a Tikka Laminated Stainless on a 300 WSM. That could be the reason I like the Sig Select better. I too had a Burris coupon 70% off won at the Rocky Mountian Elk Foundation and purchased the Sig Select with it. If and when I purchase more Burris scopes I will stick with the Sig Select. I have 2 Burris Fullfields that have migrated there way to a couple of my sons rifles and for the extra money the Black Diamond and Sig Select, I would definatly pay the difference.

As for reticle, I'm not that fond of the Bplex, it seems to be to fine at low light condition. I sent the 3X12 back and had is replaced with a standard Plex reticle.

Hope this helps

Rob

I had the chance to fire a setup with the Black Diamond 6-24 x50 last week .... WOW !!!!!!  Huge light grabbing ability with super sharp lens quality and no distortion whatsoever !  6x - low enough for close shots and the 24x to find antlers way out there !  That is one sweet mega quality scope ..... am looking for one at the best price now .  If that SIG has better clarity I don't know how ??????  I could count the hairs on a deers rear end at 150 yards with that Burris Black Diamond !!!!!!!!!!!!   ------- LOL -----

Go with the Sig Sel or Black Diamond.  Just got my Black Diamond 4-16x50 that I put on my 300 wim mag.  It is amazing.  Clear, no distortion, well built.  Haven't shot with it yet, but hoping to do that tomorrow.  I have a Fullfeild II on my 270.  It looks dull compared to the Black Diamond.  A friend has the Sig Sel, which is also very nice.  I personally like the Black Diamond better, but if you don't want to spend that money, definitely go with the Sig Sel.  Nothing below that.  I will upgrade my 270 to a Sig Sel or Black Diamond when I can get the money together.
