I'm looking for some 12 power binoculars, either 12X50s or 12X56s as an upgrade from my Nikon Look-out 10X50s. Anyone have an opinion on the Nikon Monarchs or something similar in the 500 dollar range. The will be used exclusively for deer hunting from a blind so weight isn't a concern. Thanks.

Monarch ATB 12X56. I would not use them, because of weight, size, and too much power (12x handheld is not steady), but it is probably your best option.

Are you dead set on 12 power?

Like Anweis said - Anything above 8 power, in my opinion, has a 'shakey' image - no matter how good the glass is.

If you are going to be glassing at 300 yards or less, i would put the money into better glass at 8 power. my 2 cents.

nikon, vortex, or the likes would be great.

I agree with both previous statements but if you insist on the 12X then definately the Nikon Monarch ATB.

I would prefer to go with a 12 power mainly for counting points and judging racks. The shake and bake factor isn't really a concern for me. I usually set the binoculars on the ledge of the stand when glassing for extended periods. I have read a lot of good stuff about the Vortex binoculars also. I might forego my 500 dollar limit and upgrade to those if they are worth the price difference.

I am test driving the Vortex Razor 8x42 binos right now and gotta say I am impressed.  To me the glass looks as good as my Meopta Bino's and the eye cups are fantastic.  Down sides is they are rather large, a lot larger than my Meopta 10x42.  I don't think you would be dissapointed with the Vortex.

My dad uses Meopta 12x50 binos and just loves them.  He still likes his 12x better than my 10x or the Vortex 8x.  He says shake is nota problem for him, I have never had a problem with shake with my 10x either.   Even after trying the 8x, I would still buy 10x if I were to do it again.
