For long range varmint shooting would you rather have optics with a ballistic reticle or a ballistic turret?

Thanks,
Sam

turret gets my vote, pdogs can easily get covered up by the lines or circles or whatever your scope uses at long ranges.

Reticle.  IMO there is no scope that kills pdogs more efficiently than a Leupold laser etched Varmint hunter reticle.  They even have floating windage dots.  Last year my Cooper in 204R was killing pdogs @550-600yds with that reticle.  Any other system requires more trial and error IME.

I've used both on paper for sighting in purposes.  I feel that the turret is better on my MultiZero system (Kahles), but the HHR reticle on my Sightron is faster on quicker shots, but only good at whichever magnification you have it set for.  That usually is the highest mag on the scope.

They both can be nice.  I like the ballistic reticles for big game hunting when you don't always have time to be messy with turrets.  But I love the turrets for long range varmint hunting when you are set up and have some time.

Overall I like a combo of both of them.

I use both also. On my 17 Fireball XP-100 i have a mil-dot system that i only use for windage, turret for elevation.

My AR has a T. K. Lee reticle that has mostly 1/8th MOA dots 3 MOA apart that looks like this--

.--.--.
---.
---.
---.

Used that reticle just last week on a PD shoot and a buddy killed a 530-yarder on the 4th or 5th shot (uncalibrated to my load).

My latest PD shooter is a Savage Tgt. action 17" 9"-twist McGowen 225 Win. in a Neal Cooper laminated rear-grip stock. I have the old Unertl BV-20 on top of that 1 with another TKLee reticle that looks like this--

----.
---...
--.....

...all 1-/8th dots 3 MOA apart with the center line at the scope's optical center--can't wait to try that rig (haven't yet)/

If you are shooting for percentages the turret may carry a higher hit ratio but the speed with a familiar reticle system will give you 3 times the shots with out worrying if you reset the turrets back to zero before you reset for your next shot. Take 2 rifles with one of each. I do and tend to shoot the turret a lot more with only a little difference in the hit my hit ratio.
