I would like to know ya'lls opinions on .270 fasctory loads. I use Remington Core Lock 150gr right now but will probably switch to 130gr when I rescope my gun. Is there a better factory ammo? Winchester Elite? Federal Premium? I've been realitively happy with the Remingtons...just didn't know if there was something better---Bboy623

If you can find something with a Nosler Accubond I don't think you would be disappointed.

If you were using the round nose Remington 150 grain bullets you will see a HUGE improvement in ballistics by switching to virtually anything else.  My favorite .270 round is Winchester XP3 150 grain, assuming it will group in your rifle.

I tested 6 different types of ammo in my new X-bolt .270.  It really likes Winchester XP3 130grain and really hates XP3 150grain.  The difference being a sub half-inch group vs. a 3"+ group.  Some guns favor a particular load and some will shoot most anything.

Personally I prefer to use a better bullet than Core Lock.  You can't go wrong with Nosler Accubond, Hornady Interbond, Remington Swift Scirocco, Winchester XP3 or Federal Barnes TSX.  I favor the XP3 and Barnes.

I don't know if there found in factory ammo, but my 270 shoots the 140 grain accubonds very well.  150 grain nosler partitions also, but not quite as well as the accubonds.

To say something is better or not depends on what you want to do with it. And what your rifle shoots the best. Unless your hunting elk, moose or griz the 130 options will likely be a good move. If you know your rifle well you can cover out to 500+ yds. with plenty of velocity. I haven't shot factory in a while, but when I did my rifle liked Winchester 130 sp's.
It shot the silver tips just as well, but I wasn't happy with the lack of expantion on whitetail deer. I'm glad to hear someone has had good luck with Rem ammo. I don't trust it. Too many misfires. Federal has some great ammo, but if I recall it was pricey. Ofcourse if my rifle had shot it better that is what it would have been fed. Changing ammo requires paying attention to detail and patients. If your budget allows start with federal in a couple of 130gr. options and then compare some Winchester as well. Just keep in mind that unless you are hunting very large whitetail or mule deer that rounds like the silver tip probably won't give you the best expantion. Let us know what you do and Good Luck!

Black Hills Gold with 130g Nosler Ballistic tips... My Remy 700 loves em... shoots right at 1/4 of an inch at 100 yards, everything factory on that rifle.  Did not have to change anything on that rifle, in fact, it's the only rifle I don't reload for.
Good Luck!!!

if i were to shoot a .270 it would get fed a steady diet of 130gr accubonds.

Hornady 130 gr Interbond Light Magnums.  Personally I like the heavier 140s better.  My gun just likes them more.  Nosler Accubonds are a good round.

Wes you got the 130 IB I recommended.  As for the SST, I stopped using them because they were very explosive on deer.  Didn't work on elk.  And I always found fragments in the meat.  I would go with the interbond, or if you go to the 140s, stick with the 140 interlock.  That is what I knocked my elk down with, was the 140 gr BTSP.

Pyro,
I agree with your statement about Accubonds, I use them for all my bullets except, my .270.  It just liked the ballistic tips so much I just never shot the Accubonds through the rifle. Howdy

you would probably not notice any difference on paper. you would see some differences in the terminal performance.

Guys, could you post factory ammos that you recommend?? Like Winchester Supremes or Winchester Elite XP3 or Federal Premium Vital Shock etc....so I'll have an idea of what to look at. I do not have any reloading equipment so making my own is not an option at this point. I need ammo that is fairly readily available--Bboy623 Whacko

Anyone have any opinions on what I've been using--Remington Core Lock. Is the Winchester Super X any better or about the same?--Bboy623

I have found that shooters can lead you down many roads, what works well in one gun may be crap in another.  The best thing to do, would be buy a box of the bullets you are interested in and shoot 'em.  Determine which ones your rifle likes the best then, go buy as many of the same lot as you can.
I tried Winchester, Remington, Federal, and Black Hills Gold, Heck I even bought some Nosler custom bullets... Tried 'em all.  My gun shot best with the Black Hills.  My brother's shoots the Winchesters best, but goin through my gun, the target looked like a shot gun blast had hit it.
Again, Good Luck!
