The title says it all. I have a pair of 10 year old Swarovski SLC 7x42s that are fantastic but want something a little more compact and lighter for hunting deer in Eastern hardwoods mainly. I can't afford another pair as high end as the Swaros.

Does it have to be a new pair or are you open to "used" or "demo"?

Does it have to be waterproof?

If you are open to used/demo then something like the Meopta Meostar 8x32 or Pentax DCF ED 8x32 would be very good choices. I believe the new price for either is slightly over your budget but they can be found regularly for significantly under $700 if you don't mind used and demo.

The Vortex Viper HD would be another worthwhile consideration though I haven't tried it personally.

If waterproofing isn't an issue then the Nikon SE 8x32 would be very close to the top of my list because of its optical performance. It still rivals the most expensive 8x32s on the market and for 1/4 of the price.

...and, of course, I still feel the need to mention the little Sightron SII Blue Sky 8x32. Under $200 and yet the optical performance punches way above its price point. It is my current 8x32 bin of choice.

Hope this helps.

Greetings. A used Leica Trinovid 8x32 BA would be awesome indeed. Good luck.

FrankD has the list nailed.  Possibly Zeiss Conquest 8X30 could make the list.
