My 75 year old uncle is interested in getting a new pair. He travels to Vegas  and cruises yearly and wants something reasonably compact that he can use and enjoy.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Most folks his age generally have some type of eye condition and are usually wearing eyeglasses with bifocal or trifocal lenses.

Since he lives in a BIG city, my recommendation is that he should go to a major Sporting Goods Store and try a number of different binoculars until he finds the one that best fits his individual needs.  He could always order the same binocular through SWFA later, and save a few bucks. Bandito

I'm thinking that, at his age, he will more than likely need a low magnification binocular that will not be a problem to hand hold.

It takes time and patience to find a binocular that will fit comfortably and work well with eyeglasses, especially for a Senior Citizen.

Certain compact binoculars can be a real pain because they usually have a very small exit pupil which makes it difficult to align with the eye pupils and can cause varying degrees of black out.

You said that he goes on cruises, keep in mind that the 7x50 with an exit pupil of 7mm has been a standard marine binocular for many years due to the fact that it is much easier to center the eye pupils at 7mm when using binoculars on a moving ship.  The low magnificaton is also good for hand holding.

My wife is in her early seventies and has a pretty strong prescription for her eyeglasses,  the Leupold Katmai 6x32mm with 5.33mm exit pupil works very well for her, easy for her to hand hold and a nice wide FOV, also, the eyecups are OVER-SIZED, which helps when viewing with eyeglasses.

Best Wishes
