I sit on one mountain and look across to the next mountain from 500 to 1400 yds. to find deer. with snow it isn't too bad but without, it's very difficult to find them. i had a pair of 25x100 binoculars that worked fairly well but weighed 16 lbs. i've already sold them and i'm looking for something much smaller and lighter. thinking in the 15 to 20x range, 50 or 56 dis lens. what's the ticket for under 1k?

Tract Toric UHD 12.5x demo is superb, and a steal even at full retail.    The demo price is under $600 IIRC.

the binoculars will be mounted on a tri-pod with constant viewing trying to find something to shoot. 12x is not enough.

Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

You mention deer, 15x and 56 objective. Since you are using a tripod I would look at the 14x80 Steiner. They are called a military model now. But I have the Senator 14x80 and they are quite nice in low light with the bigger objective. They will run a couple hundred over your budget.

Under $1k, there really isn't much.  I think Athon has a 15x56, but I have not had a chance to test it.  Most of the lower priced 15x binos are not worth it, which leaves the Kaibab.  Kaibab started life as a substantially more expensive bino and only dropped in price recently after Vortex introduced higher Razor UHD.  Before that, Kaibab was their most expensive binocular line.

Koshkin, can i take it from your response that you're giving them a slight thumbs up?

I really liked the original 15x56 Kaibab.  I have the 20x56 and that is a little too much for this optical system.

The 18x56 looks better to me than the 20x and I do like the 18x56 a fair bit.

With somewhat conventional high mag binos right now, if I were looking, it would be Kaibab for around $1k or step up to Meopta for another $500 or so.  I have not tested the Razor UHD.

For some reason binoculars don't like me  (my eye prescriptions are too far different between eyes), but I sure wouldn't mind having one of the 15-45x65 Viper spotting scopes for glassing a hunting area.
