Does anybody have any experience with the Benelli R1?  I got to handle one and it felt great.  But everything I've read and heard is it has a very heavy and creepy trigger.  Could that be fixed?

I finally sold my old Remigton Auto in 30/06 that had a tendency to jam.  It had a heavy trigger but not as heavy as I think the R1 has.  I like Browning Auto's but really like the R1's ability to be taken down for complete cleaning.

The trigger is the best part of the gun, it's very well made and very smart solutions so it can fairly easaly be adjusted down.

but accuracy and reliability on it is really garbage.
Really nothing that I would put my savings on, if i wanted an hunting auto i would choose Browning BAR in .308 or 9,3x62

I did a search here and found one posting.  The guy said 5" groupings at 350 yards which doesn't sound bad but I've read other postings elsewhere about poor accuracy.  That's too bad.

I respect your opinion.  I guess the BAR is the way to go, definitely in 308.  I just wish it was easier to clean - the bolt is almost impossible to detail.

I've had a different experience than technika.

Have an R1 in 30.06 with comfort stock. Agree with him on the trigger works pretty good, have not had adjusted but I am not a target shooter.  Have had zero reliability problems - no jams or misfeeds  of any kind.  Pretty cold weather for deer hunt last year - no action problems.  Cleaned it very thoroughly when I first got it and use lubricants sparingly, think this goes a long way to ensure reliability in an autoloader. To qualify that,  have only put 100-150 rouinds through it.  Not target rifle accuracy but plenty good enough for hunting.

Would gues at about 1.5" @100 but don't save targets - I was happy though.
Been using 165 grain Federal's.

I think the rep for poor accuracy may have been during initial production runs, I would not be concerned about it.  Many other good autoloaders too, get what your heart desires!

I only own one auto, a remington 7400 in 06, its not the most accurate rifle, but its accurate enough for opening morning here in wisconsin, when 1,000,000 hunters enter the woods, at times it get be like sporting clays; deer running every where.
