I've got a Remington Rem 700 BDL in .25-06, a 2-piece NF 20 MOA mount, Seekins rings and a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x FFP scope.
I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I'm going to bed the base to the gun. I have read several threads where people have taken round stock turned down to 30 mm (or whatever the right size is for their setup) and drilled holes through it so they could access more screws on the base. My problem is that on the front base my rings will cover one of the screws and on the rear base my rings will cover one of the screws. I am considering having a machine shop make some screws that will thread in to the receiver but the top of them will be like a dowel that perfectly fits hole in the base. Either that or I could just plug the two holes that I won't be able to access on the base and plug the corresponding holes on the receiver so I don't get bedding compound in them during the bedding process and then I can just go finger tight on the two screws that I can use for my bedding process. I'm afraid if I do that I will find that I should have tweaked the whole setup left or right a bit to make it so all four screws would fit though. Any thoughts on how to do this best? I really wish TPS still made the Basebed Bravo system. Why did they quit making that? Thanks. |
