OK I've been looking @ the SS 10x for about seven years now every time I talk myself out buying one & now after a year or so B.S. with everybody here I still cant bring my self to buy one, I've been looking @ this Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 now for about month. I want scope that I can use for long range hunting & all around shooting. plus it wont break the bank & the old lady wont break my neck. lol It will either be mounted on my savage 10 308 win or my savage 12 22-250 rem.

That seems to be apples & oranges, fixed vs.variable.Also a big difference in magnification.I own both & use them for different applications.Might want to take a look at Conquest 3-9x40 with a #4 ret,I think that might solve your dilemma. You can't go wrong with any of these scopes, all you have to do now is pull the trigger[I know easier said then done]Good luck.

I know what you mean. I've been contemplating buying one for a few years now ( Super Sniper) to go on an AR , SAKO, or TIKKA . I even recently picked up an old Remington 788 chambered in 222 I thought about putting one on.
I have no doubt in the world that the SS is a top notch scope, but every time I have the cash, some other toy pops up I want a little more.
Guess I need to flip a coin sometime.

hunterwingler, seven years of contemplating? Like the good book says analysis paralysis.

Me says Excellent for the 3x9SS or the CMR Leatherwood. Both great scopes but the SS would be better as a hunting scope!

I very much like your avatr btw but instead of Obama I wish I could change to the receiving person of the day, each day.

I,ve got to go with pyro on this one.My HD is a much better scope than the reg.10x but it's also 2.5x more money. You've waited this long, do the save thing & get the better scope, you will never be sorry. The HD's do sometimes come up on the list for sale....pull the trigger

Because of that statement and never being 100% sure something couldn't pop up closer on you, I'd steer away from the fixed.  The Viper you mentioned would be a better of the two choice.  I'd say keep saving and when the new SS's release i think there may be a 4-16 or something that would be perfect for you, and by then you would have saved enough for it.

WoW that wasn't much help thank guys lol. OK  I know for fact the most shot are over 100yds, Yes love the SS HD. I kind of  been in the need for a new scope for last year. My 308 only had maybe 100 rounds down it  really would love get some use out of it. I still need mounts & rings for.I'm not a big fan "any 3x9's" just me. Hell Maybe I'll Flip a coin when the time comes. Still have my buck master mounted & ready to go on the 22-250(Bitch Getter) don't ask about the name. lol
