I have a Eotech 511 I bought several years ago. The first set of batteries probably lasted 2 years. The last 2 sets have only lasted a few months. I do not use the gun all time. I shot the gun and used the Eotech 3 or 4 times since I last changed the batteries which are the "N" size I got at radio Shack (alkaline). Bad batteries or is the Eotech going bad?

Shouldnt you be using the lithium batteries like surefire batteries?

I wondered if that was the issue. I don't know where I can find lithium N's though. Radio Shack only has alkaline.

You may want to look in some of the photography supply stores as well, these batteries are used in some cameras and video cams as well.

The 511 and its N batteries have caused me troubles as well. COuple tricks that I found that helped.

1. When you are done at the range, pop that battery compartment off and make certain that the batteries disconnect. This make certain that the unit has really powered down and is not slowly discharging the batts even if turned off.
2. When buying the batteries, hunt around for a shop that not only sells them, but sells enough of them to keep the stock fresh. The set that was at my local Radio Shack had been in their stock for almost a year.
3. The N cells really do not like cold weather. I had my 511 on a shotgun during deer season and was getting the low battery flicker in less than 12 hours of being out in 10-20 degree F temps.

Hope that helps.

Looks like it isn't that batteries. I put in new ones (2 different sets) and nothing happened. What should I try first?

Fixed it! YippeeThere was some corrosion on one of the contacts. I hit it with a little extra fine sand paper and I am back in business using the batteries I thought were dead.

Just FYI, I use a number of EOTECH N battery units at work. I had trouble with batteries. I spoke to the factory. I was told by one of thier techs to use Eveready energizer batteries only. For whatever, they worked better in their tests than other brands. The N battery model uses up batteries fast. The AA battery units are better. I would expect the newer cr123 units are even better. I have had problems with a couple of units holding zero.
