I've always used Leuppold's rings and bases but I'm very interested in trying something new.  I just purchased Model 700 VTR in the 308 SA and will putting a Conquest 4.5x14 on top once the stock and trigger are replaced.  The scope will be remaining on the gun so detachable options are not important.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Since detachable options aren't important I like the Leupold dual dovetail mounts. they are very well made and don't weigh much. They are very solid and attractive, too.

The Talley non-detachable steel mounts are also very well made. Their rings can be removed from the gun intact with the scope, if needed. Dual dovetail mounts can't. I have them in both detachable and fixed on several rifles and they are my favorite mount for hunting guns.

Welcome to O.T., BTW. It's great to have you aboard.
