I have put together an Mosin M44 with bent bold handle and sight mount assy.  I need some opinions on the inexpensive Barska scopes....$100 dollar or less.  My eyesight isnt what it used to be or else I would just use the military sights.

I do realize that there are a lot better optics out there,  but I am just looking for something that will hold up to the recoil of the 7.62x54R.  that wont be expensive.

Personally I'd spend another $100 and put something like a Nikon Team Primos on it. I know that's double the stated budget, but I hate to see someone throw away $100 on a scope that breaks, or you can't see through. That's just me, but Barska isn't exactly known for quality. Nikon makes some lower end products, and so do many others that I would buy before going to barfska.

I would buy one of these before anything barska produces.

If $100 is the cut off point, maybe just a little stretch would get you in to this.

Good luck, and welcome to the Optics Talk.

If you wan to put your faith in a Barska, a fixed 4x on that M44 might be your best bet for reliability.

I don't personally own a Barska but I do have a Leapers on a powerful spring gun. The optics are not very good but at least it holds up. I would suspect the same of the Barska.
When looking at low end optics it is best not to have high range variables. The clarity is not good to begin with and it degrades more when the power is cranked up.
The same goes for the cheaper Bushnell's I have used. Though I believe their 4x would be a better choice than Barska. http://www.swfa.com/pc-4950-309-bushnell-4x32-sportsman-rifle-scope.aspx I have used their low end scopes on a few guns and they have held up, too.

M44 should work well with a fairly low magnification scope.

I have a few Mosin rifles here and there and four have scopes on them.  Before, we talk about scopes, which mount/rings are you using?

Thank you for answering my questions.  Looks like I will stick to the Bushnell for the cheaper scopes.  They have worked well in the past for what they cost.  Just wanted to know if I should have given one of them a try.

Ok,  decided to give one a try..... installed one on my 300WM last night.    Just got in after firing 60 rounds (yes....ouch)    Scope stayed on target...stayed amazingly clear (had to use a/o for focus adjustment with power changes.  Reticle still intact!  Looks like it will do fine for the M44 nagant.
I was actually surprised at the scopes performance.  I expected a lot less.
