Thank AC.

Ronnie H. from Barska has been very nice, both in sending the products and in follow up emails with me.

I told him what were doing over here, sent him the link, and he has been checking it out.

He's been very available and unoffended by my comments.

Ranbur, this scope "seems" pretty tough.

I knocked it around some before I mounted it. Without marring, or scratching it though.

I do plan on doing a "bubble test" this week.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Sounds like Ronnie H. with Barska is a straight shooter.  I have to commend him for assisting with this test.

If I worked for Swarovski, Zeiss, Bushnell, Nikon, etc. and needed a new rep, Ronnie would be the first guy I called!  If he can service BARSKA crap, think of the kind of servicing he could provide on GOOD, RELIABLE optics!

Ronnie H, sounds reasonable, unlike our other friend from Millett.

I looked at several models of Barska binoculars. They are absolutely fantastic as door stops.

When you take beer bottles and cut them to make lenses out of them, you don't get much of an optical product.

Barska: please don't send me any binoculars for review.

While searching for Barska reviews I found this forum, mostly by accident.  It may be interesting to note that Tasco is considered by some to be not the best around but lots of folks here in the south have good service for hunting.  Barska seems to about a third of the Tasco price.  While reading the reviews I noticed that BSA seemed to be included in the class with Barska.  My own opinion, as a life member of the Fort Valley Ga. gun club and one of the guys trying to interest kids in the shooting sports.  My own kids use the BSA varmint scopes in the NRA 22lr matches, and I would recomend them a an excellent starter scope.  Couldn't tell you what would happen if I mounted one on a 300 magnum tho.

IMO, there is a place for scopes that are lesser quality than the Nikon BM and FFII.  I got my son a Savage 9317 and I put a Simmons .22Mag 3-9X32 on it (from SWFA) and its wonderful.  We went squirrel hunting last Sat. and he shot two and I shot one with it.  We were in heavy timber and the lighting was not good, but it wasn't twilight either.  All three of our kills were at about 30 yds (maybe a little less) with one shot!

It is a great scope for this purpose.  Now, I'm not saying it would be my choice for shooting p. dogs at 250 yds, but for small game here in Eastern Nebraska, its just right!

take em!

OK.

Water dunk test concluded.

Totally submerged under water for 6 hours.

No water on inside, but the illuminated reticle went south.

Pulled the battery, blew out the water, and it works again.

I can!  I had a BSA deerhunter mounted on a 300WSM and it only took 12 shots to yank it's guts out.  I agree that there are places for lesser priced scopes and I think it's best to keep them on light to moderate recoiled calibers.

I agree Scrubhunter, we own several different brands from Tasco up to Leupold.  I've set up rifles for folks for quite a few years and if money were no object mine would all wear Premier Reticle version of Leupold.  The worst piece of junk I ever saw was a little 3/4 inch Tasco for a 22lr.   But, you use what people want put on their guns.  If they bring in the rifle with scope and mounts, well........................

OK...We have a problem.

After the water test, I looked through the Barska Ridgeline and concluded that it was indeed waterproof and had passed the test of being submerged for 6 hours under water with the turret caps removed.

I saw some spots, but I thought they were on the outside and were a result of water residue.

Well, today I took it out and cleaned up the lenses with some Zeiss premoistened wipes and looked through it only to find that it had water spots INSIDE the lenses.

FAILED!!

I guess I can try out the Barska CS dept now.

I'll keep the forum updated on how that progresses.

OUT......
