So I like big bore, some what unusual rifles. I recently picked up a really nice Greener-Martini in 45/70 and then tripped over a Remington Baikal MP-221 double rifle in 45/70. I was really very pleasantly surprised how nice a rifle this gift from mother Russia was for the money...

The comedy comes from the scope. First of all, that it was equipped with a scope. Double rifles are not so usually adorned. Second, that it had a $100.00 Barska scope on it. The gentleman I bought it from said he didn't sight it in...wonder why? This is a really a surprisingly light rifle for the caliber. I mean it weighs just under 7 pounds unloaded. Even with some relatively mild loads, the light weight and minimal stock are going to thump you good.

I'm really tempted to try some hefty loads in it and shoot it from a rest to see how long the scope lasts...

We have a lot of fun at Barka's expense here in the past. Matter of fact, a rep for them sent me a rifle scope and a spotter to "review" after all my smack.

The spotter is still around, but the scope went tits up in short order.

I'm  not a Barska fan by any means but putting one on a light weight, big bore double rifle is just asking for broken glass. In all honesty I was surprised that someone made mounts for this gun.

The weird thing is that at lower magnification it doesn't appear half bad. I have no idea how it tracks...maybe I'll put it on my grandson's 22. I did want him to learn how to shoot iron sights first though.

I would wait and put it on the grandson's 22 after he learns on iron sights. Then you might get some use out of it.
