I'm considering having my Weatherby .300 barrel ported to reduce recoil.  What issues should I be aware of?  What can I expect to pay?

Do  you guys really think the Weatherby is really a better choice considering the cost of brass and availability of ammo when compared to 300 WSM or 300 Win? I dont really put muzzlebrakes on rifles but I do use the Smith Vortex flash suppressor and like it and they do make a muzzle brake which if anything like their flash suppressor is likely the best available they are really on top of things. http://www.smithenterprise.com/products07.html

I think I paid $175.00 for this brake cut into the end of the barrel

It was by Lock, Stock and Barrel in the Salt Lake City area (801) 943-8563 and I can recommend it.

One thing, in the stand or when hunting now I do wear a pair of these

Keeps your ears warm, magnifies sound (not much but some) and protects your ears.  What's not to like.  Lightweight and fairly comfortable to wear as long as it is not too hot.

................There are other ways to solve recoil problems. On rifles barrels, I`m not a fan of any porting or a fan of any muzzle brakes. For the most part, if I can`t handle a rifle`s recoil as is from the factory, I don`t buy it!

For bench shooting, there are cushy lined shoulder protective shooting vests and strap ons available. There are also better than factory recoil pads from Limbsaver and others which can be used.

When shooting my 375, I have my left elbow on the bench, while the palm of my left hand rests on top of the scope with some downward pressure. It works for me and that technique reduces barrel lift, rifle kickbackon the shoulder, without affecting accuracy.
