A bag combined with a solid rest is what works for me. One bag for the front and one under the butt stock.

That's what my club has now, cement benches. We put bags on top and it works great.

depends also on how realistic you want your results. In the extreme a solid mounted rail gun will tell you the ultimate accuracy as opposed to standing which at the other end of the spectrum gives usable accuracy.

My hunting rigs get harris bipods with the swivel head and my bench guns/range queens get the harris with no swivel.

Bipods on bench, with a bag under the buttstock.

No bipods on my hunting rifles. I use whatever I can find hunting. For the hunting I do, a bipod is just something to else to try and get through the woods without hanging up in the briars. It's also extra weight I see no need in humping.
