Still wanting to upgrade my current setup for 1000 yards.  I really like the Nightforce line but don't want to bite off that much from a dollar aspect, well at least new.  Looking for some suggestions.  I've gotten good response and heard good things on the Sightron S3 but how about the Bushnell 6500 in a 4-30x50 or a 4.5 whichever it is?  Seems Leupold isn't getting much love on this site but how about them in the same comparison?  Either the 6.5-20 or the 8.5-25?  Is a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 a lot better than the ones listed?  I know, it has a 1 inch tube and not a 30mm but I can use rings or a base to get the MOA to where it will work out that far.

Second part, what top end power is really needed for this distance?  That's wide open I know but more to the point, I've looked at a Swarovski that topped out at 18 and love the optics but am a little leery of it being on the low end for that range.  On the other hand, out here in NM the heat makes mirage which makes much over about 20-24 tough to use except during winter.  Course just because it goes to 30 doesn't mean I have to use it.

Thanks for any advice.

You'll hear one more good thing about the Sightron SIII...from me.  Zeiss' glass is a bit better IMO, but the lack of internal adjustment and the fact that the Sightron's adjustment knobs just seemed more tactile and well made to me will make me choose the SIII over the Zeiss Conquest.

I use both a VX-3 LR/T and a S-3.
I haven't had problems with either in terms of clicks or holding zero

18X is plenty, your normally not going to be able to use even that high of magnification very often.  10X is fine for that distance.  Is this an F-class rifle?
