The Weaver K4's were very popular in the 60's and 70's and were designed for use on rifles. They were generally less expensive than their competition and had a good reputation for quality and reliability. I have one that came with a used rifle that I purchased about six years ago. My gunsmith told me they were worth between $50-$75 and ebay seems to support this when they are in good condition. Occasionally you will find someone who wants a vintage scope for a particular rifle they are restoring. You can have this scope rebuilt by Ironsight Inc. of Tulsa, OK and possibly others if you need to. There is a small minority of hunters who prefer fixed 4x scopes today, but they are not very popular with the majority. I couldn't tell you what year yours is-Weaver is advertising an 80th anniversary addition of this scope on their website as we speak. The K4 is shown in a copy of my 1956 Shooters Bible, but I don't know when the C3 version came out or what it means. I plan on keeping mine to use on a .22lr for practice and as a back-up to my primary scope at least for now.
