I'm looking to purchase a new scope.  I've been looking for a scope with 6.5-20 power with 44mm or higher lense.  Just looking for some opinions on what to buy.  Is the ATN scope waterproof and fogproof?  Is it a good scope?

ATN Makes excellent glass, and there night vision is brighter than others near the price too. just one problem, with just about all of there products, they are poorly assembled and unreliable.

I think they have monkeys on there assembly lines or something

I do not have a whole lot of ecperience with their night vision, but I was not impressed with their glass in the normal scopes that I've seen from them.  Build quality is indeed pretty bad on top of that.

ATN has been discussed here before. It hasn't been favorable.

I don't shoot that much.  I have a 7mm Rem. Mag Modell 700 BDL with Nikon Buckmasters 3x9x50, 300 WSM browning A bolt with Nikon Monarch Gold 2x10x56, 270 WSM browning A bolt with Leupold VX-III 3x9x50.  I normally only shoot during hunting season.  But I'm more of a bow hunter.  I normally shoot the 7mm and my dad shoots the 300 or the 270.  I personally can't stand the 300 WSM becuase it has the boss system on it and it's unbelievably loud.  To loud for me.  I'm looking to purchase a good scope for my 7mm.  The places i do rifle hunt it's not uncommon to shoot 300-500 yards. I've killed many deer at this range but the 3x9x50 Nikon buckmasters just doesn't cut it for me at that range.  I've been looking at purchasing the Burris Black Diamond 6x24x50.  I haven't had any experience with a burris scope but have herd their good optics.  I've also looked at the Nikon Monarch 6x20x44.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Meade is a horrible company that does most of its sub-quality work in China.

Its main brand is Simmons, this is thier lower end. Thier middle quality brand is Weaver

and what is supose to be there high end brand is Redfield but we have not seen this as

bieng the case yet. Bottom Line this company should not be supported and all of these

brands should be avoided IMO. There is so many better quality scopes out there at

competitive prices that there is no reason to do buisness with a company like this.

Hey SVD, have you owned a Redfield, Weaver, or Simmons since Meade Optics took them over? I was just wondering cause A guy I work with shoots a Rem 700 BDL synthetic stock chambered in 7mm rem mag with one of the new Weaver Grand Slam scopes, he shoots hand loads and gets sub 1.5" groups at 200 yards. The funny thing is how he came about getting the scope. He had an old Simmons Pro 50 that the crosshairs fell out of and called the customer service number to see what they would do for him, they told him to send it to them and they would take a look at it and see what the deal was. They called him back after getting the scope and said that they would gladly give him 100 dollars off any of there Weaver Grand Slam series scopes. To me that sounds like great customer service, considering that Pro 50 was as old as it was. I have looked through this scope and have to say that it is bright and clean, and it's holding its zero on that 7 mag. We adjusted the factory trigger on his remington, and that's all that has been done to it. If you have had any personal experience with these scopes since Meade Optics took them over, I would like to read about them.

Thanks in advanced.

Oh yeah Trykon, I have a Hoyt Trykon my self, it is by far the best shooting bow I have ever owned. 30 yard groups the size of a 50 cent peice with a Zebra Twist Hybrid string. The factory Fuse string had to be replaced.

Hello NCHunter

The Grand Slam is the best product Meade makes IMO  but when you have a much better scope like the

3-9x40 4200 selling for $260 I see no reason to go with the Grand slam. I have not owned any Meade product

but I am a gunsmith and have worked with many of them. I feel that the quality of these scopes is going to

degrade over time due to this new ownership.

Ok thanks SVD. I have never owned a 4200 elite, but have looked through them at the store and thought WOW thats a Bushnell? I had a bad experience in the early days of my hunting/shooting life with a Bushnell scope and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I lived and learned, and now know that you have to spend a little to get a little. I am currently seeking a hunting scope for a Savage 110 7mm rem mag. I took the Nikon Buckmasters off it and put on my wifes 30-30. Seems better suited for that gun.

With Bushnell 4200 scopes the glass quality is very nice for the price and they are very well made in Japan.

I would not recommend any of the other Bushnell scopes, there has been many quality problems with the

other series such as what you expierienced. There are also many other quality scopes that you do not  have

to spend a whole lot to get.
