Anyone had hands on?

Ive checked and the "PVS" variants (the real-deal stuff) is $10K+.  If ATN's doesn't completely suck, it might be worth some investigating.

Anyone used?

Anyone seen?

It'd be for a hog gun, mostly.

Jeff,
I've had hands on on some of the ATN NV stuff and it is generally better than their "daytime" optics.  However, I believe it is too high priced.  There is still the possibility of quality issues, in other words, it's a chance.  However, if you get a good unit, it will be pretty darned good...

ATN'S are the poorest product line ever produced...

I could give you a list of reasons but the old ATN Another Tactical Nightmare...says enough

I believe it has been said that Frozen Spit is about as clear as ATN glass and you could get something from the military gen 2 used and abused that will perform 2x as good...

Try Russian...cheap and decent...

I believe that the hogs will be safe unless you are within 50-100...(ft)...

ATN doesn't completely suck they blowwww...and not in the good way you will blow your wad and not in the good way (even if it is small) hmmm...oooppss... Sorry RANCID

You in no way get your monies worth.

Put the money away for a few months/years (heck take the money you were going to spend and put it into a savings bond (12-16yr maturity) and I will be shocked if they can improve their product so that the money you saved 1k is now doubled and is worth the 2k...I doubt their product will be worth it then...(hope I don't get sniped by some disgruntal ATN fan...)

I would try if you really must jump to find someone who is debating using it as a plinking item...

No doubt, you have to be willing to spend the time, if necessary to get "one good one" out of perhaps many, their quality is always suspect.
The Russian stuff has its own set of problems... you can never be sure how much use it has has before you get it...
ATN is devilish, but not necessarily the devil...
anything you purchase from ATN will have some pain involved, in my experience, they finally came up with workable hardware, but only after many attempts.  IF you purchase the stuff, just be prepared to spend a lot of time mailing back and forth until you get something that works.

I am only speaking of russian on price vs return...
I am not endorsing russian...
Very select russian...
I have picked a few up that were worth it to use for contrast but used them and dumped them...
It is not uncommon for russian medicore to be in plethra and quality to be in limited supply...

Test result portion of your tag line...

If it fails 1 or 2 times out of 10 is it worth your time.
If it cannot see further than you can throw a rock is it worth the dime.

Failure of milspec items 3/4 of 5k/6k is a pass...is it worth anyones life...it probably was not properly maintained...

Rather than that have you tried using a video camera on night mode they gather light like crazy which is why I keep pressing to get some manufacturer to build a civilian version video camera based rifle scope when they do most of the night vision and high dollar high magnification optics will do the same thing price wise that happened to my ten thousand dollar + Hasselblad cameras when digital cameras came out.   The military already has some and I have seen Chinese soldiers in a photo with the viewer helment mounted and the video sight rifle mounted so they can hold it over or around something to acquire the target.  We are way behind on what we give our average soldiers.

Thanx for the input, guess I'll keep using the laser designator while I save $15,000 for a PVS.

Not as quick, but you'll be better off.

I ended up with an ATN that had 1) not bad glass, 2) excellent repeatability in the BDC, 3) pretty good illuminated reticle.  It took 7 tries.  ATN eventually covered all the shipping.  Not a good situation, I've said before I would not purchase another, but it was a good scope.  I've tested a couple of the ATN NV's and they were better quality than the "daytime" scopes.  Would I recommend one?  Absolutely not, simply because the quality is undependable.  IF you can find one with everything in sync and everything working, it is OK, but as I said, more expensive than it should be.  Generally, ATN is NOT on par with other scopes in the same price range.  The NV's are a little better, but not much, still not worth the cost.
They are not ALL junk, just most of them.
When I got mine, I had a particular "need" I was fulfilling.  I shot with it and my wife shot with it for several years.  I gave it away rather than sell it and put a Diavari on her rifle.  She likes it better...

The nice thing about the PS series is that it does nothing but present the image to the day optic, no adjustments in elevation or windage, no need for precision in mechanical movements, just present the image.  In that, the NV has to do what NVs do, and nothing more.

Maybe I can talk Chris into selling me one with the provision that it will come back if it ain't up to snuff.  Or, better yet, maybe he'd let me wade through his inventory till I found one that did as it should.
