Is there any difference between the WEAVER GS riflescopes and the NITREX line of scopes? Both are marketed by ATK and made by L.O.W. Looks like another piece in the riflescope puzzle of seemingly unlimited brand names and a handful of actual manufacturers.

How did you confirm that LOW makes the GS line?  Do you know if they make the other Weaver lines?

After further review ,I now realize that these optics companies change ownership more often than I trade cars. You have to be a detective to keep up with ownership changes and country of manufacture changes. About all I can say is that I found an import bill of lading from L.O.W. to MEADE INSTRUMENTS. You probably know that MEADE owned the WEAVER brand after BLOUNT and befotre ATK. Would it be safe to assume that L.O.W. still makes WEAVER if WEAVER still shows MADE IN JAPAN? Like I said, you have to be a detective to follow these changes. I am sure that the NITREX and WEAVER lines are both marketed by ATK, at least  this month.

Grand Slam started out being made by LOW.  When Weaver was bought by Meade, quality changed, so I suspect there was a change in manufacturing.  Now that ATK is back to woning Weaver, I expect the scope quality to perk up quickly.  Nitrex and Weaver scopes will be distributed differently, but are largely the same products (if configured the same).  Weaver will have some more product variety though.

...so if someone wanted to buy a Weaver scope---but didn't want to buy one of the suspicious Meade-Weavers---how would he know if he was getting the New Stuff instead of some of the Old Stock??    Shocked

Hardly surprising considering who I am dealing with here.  Between you, Mark, Ted, Billy, Roy, Brandon and Co, it is rather surprising that I have not gone entirely psycho yet.  Clumsiness is the least of my concerns.

Below is the reply that I got from Weaver optics, I had sent them an email asking which of their scopes were "Magnum Rated" (if there is such a beast). I must say that they had a reply to me in just a few hours. I have been shoppin around for a great scope at a great price. I dont have to have the best looking girl at the ball, as long as she can dance. I have been leaning toward a Bushnell 4200 but I may now think about a Nitrex if they truely are as good. If they have the same guts and are made in Japan, who know?. Any Opinions from the peanut gallery? Anyone used one of these. Reading all this info and shopping for scopes and comparing this to that and this and it is also made by them...arrrrggghhh! Makes me want to push a screwdriver into my ear. My father never had this issue when he bought me my first scope in the early eighties, and that scope is still on my 270...

Any of our Grand Slam models will withstand this without issue. They all
support a lifetime warranty which included damages caused by recoil.
Check them out at www.weaveroptics.com - we do have new Super Slam model
being released in mid summer which are even better. Also check out-
www.nitrexoptics.com as they are just as good at a lower price- made at
the same place as the weavers.
