I can only compaire the Talos BTR-FFP 4-14X44mm APLR2 to the Vortex PST-FFP 4-16X50mm EBR 1 MRAD. Apples for apples! The vortex is better, but slightly IMO.  Advantage to vortex (turrets, 50mm vs 44mm, and the glass is just a slight advantage)  But this seams to be a great economy scope that can equip 3 rifles with a good scope for the cost of 1 Vortex! Yes I did have to send my original Talos back for replacement.  But I think Athlon is figuring it out, and there customer service is exelent!

I'll never sale either of my two Vortex.  But I probably wont buy another now that I know about Athlon..

Koshkin. I know they are totally different scopes, but I'm hoping to see an evolution in craftsmanship and quality between their lowest offering and a mid grade.
Does anyone have ANY experience with the Cronus?

I tested the 1-6x24 Cronus and liked it a lot.

As for the rest of it, when dealing with different OEMs, your plan does not work.  That having been said, knowing where Cronus is made, I am not terribly concerned about its build quality.

Husqvarna, looked it up.
I had to check, thought maybe Huskama sucked so bad at scopes ("anyone can hit anything at any range" only holds so much water), maybe they branched out into chainsaws and tractors.

I realize that the Ares BTR isn't out yet, officially, but many have received test models.

I'm between an Ares BTR 4.5-27 FFP and a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25......

Has anyone had a chance to handle both?

Thanks.

I have not tested the PST Gen 2 yest, but I am testing the Ares and like it very much.  As far as value for dollar goes, it is a very impressive proposition.

Now, it is a new design and a sample of one, but I like it a lot.

Well, Zen Ray is for all practical purposes out of business.  They won't update their website, etc, and all product shows to be out of stock, or at least it did.  They are history.

Vortex now has most everything made in China, including the Razor binos and spotters, which used to be made in Japan.  Vortex has always been average at best IMO.

It is easy to get great optics nowadays, even the Chinese ones.  Durability, longevity, etc is where Chines stuff usually falls short.  I bit on the ZR binos a few years ago.  Great optics, below par everything else, over time.

I would definitely try a grease with less viscosity. The factory grease they apply the turrets is pretty thick and gives the turrets a mushy feel. I hope this works for you.

I purchased an Argos BTR a few months ago and was quite impressed with it other than the mushy turrets. I replaced the grease and it’s now got a positive and more tactile sound and feel. I personally like the glass better than Vortex PST glass.

I was happy enough that I went to Rainier Arms by my house and compared a Cronus 4-29 and the new Razor Gen 2 side by side. They let me take both scopes outside and we compared them back and forth for about 20 minutes. The glass in both scopes was completely the same to my 20/20 vision eyeballs. I was amazed by the build quality of the Cronus, especially for its price tag. So I brought it home. I zoomed in on a tree branch about
1200-1300 yds away a few sunny days ago and was mesmerized by the detail I could make out. Then a crow landed on the branch and I was shocked to be able to see the individual feathers of its wing. Amazing scope!!! I am an Athlon believer now
