Pics come soon.

I finally got the upper, an assortment of ammo, and an optic I like for the task at hand - went with a USO SN4 1-4.

The only mount I had on hand was a LaRue Aimpoint mount (single ring.  I asked USO about it and they said it should be fine.  I guess I should'a asked LaRue also.)

I put several variations of ammo through it and got OK results at 100 yards, great results at 50, and very good results at 200 yards.  My guess is that the round at 100 yards has not yet stabilized in its flight, and by 200 yards it is good to go.  My 100-yard groups were right at 1MOA, if not slightly over.  My groups at 200 yards were just under 0.75MOA.

The gun didn't care for the Nosler 110-gr. triple-shocks, but liked the SSA 100-grain pro hunters.

With the groups at 100 yards not being better, (I wanted and expected better than 1MOA), there is a chance the scope is not entirely stable in the single ring - it is a rather heavy scope and the weight distribution isn't such that the ring is in the center of the mass. Another possibility is that I was not yet settled in with the the new setup - that too could be a part of it.

All in all, I really, really like the 6.8.  It offers significantly more power than the 5.56 and at a weight MUCH LOWER than a .308-caliber AR platform.  Granted, the bullet is smaller (110-grain vs. 175-grain) but is moving faster (about 2900FPS vs. 2650FPS.)

In time, with more confidence and a better understanding of the ballistics, the 6.8 will probably become my go-to hunting gun (for shots inside 200 yards) and my primary hog gun (again, inside 200 yards.)It is accurate, very low recoil, and has enough power to put down most thigns for which I hunt.  If I come across a 500-pound hog, maybe I'll be sure and put 2 behind his ear, just in case.

In my opinion, it ain't a 500-yard gun or cartridge.  Then again, I already have a 500-yard gun, and it does that job perfectly (better than 0.5MOA) and is heavy as balls.

If you are in need of a decent hunting caliber and want an AR platform (and do not need great performance at long range - 300+ yards), 6.8SPC might be worth a look.

And AR15Performance.com does great work!

Good info, good report.  Thank you.  I thought about playing around with one of those.  You talked me out of it.

I'm getting more interested in that cartridge with every passing day.
It seems to be a good choice for deer, hogs, etc, and I think it will be my sons' first centerfire rifle chambering.
I doubt that there is anything wrong with the mounting system you're using as it concerns your accuracy results.
If it were not solid, you simply would not be shooting .75 MOA at 200, regardless of what's happening at 100 yards.

Yea, as for the mounting, that is what I thought too, just looking for an explanation.

I've now talked to a few who say the round has to settle down and that might take 100+ yards.  I have a 300WM that does the same: 1MOA at 100 yards, 1/2MOA at 500 yards.

I've got a light-barrelled .30-06 like that, only worse. It shoots heavy Matchkings to right around 2 inches at 100 yards.
I'd get rid of it, except that it will shoot five-round groups of 2 inches at 500 yards, too.

 I'm not joking.

The scope is on, pics tomorrow.

I like the SWFA SSALT, but the front tube section is about EXACTLY the width of the ring, so that thing ain't gonna move at all!

Update.

I put the SS3-9FFP on it and went back to the range, better precision with a finer aiming point and more magnification.

If only the damned SS was illuminated, it'd have a new home!

I have skills (nunchuck skills and computer-hacking skills) but photography of guns ain't my strength.

Here are a few for Chris  - though they are far from good.
