I am looking for a scope for my M&P 15. I am lookin to shoot short range to maybe 500 yards at the maximum. I have about $300.00 to spend. I am looking for the best bang for the buck. I don't want to put on some giant scope but I would like to find a good short to medium range scope. Target shooting and some varmit hunting. I am no expert so some sound advice and recomendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks zrexxx.

Pretty good for up close, pretty good for further out. Give a few more details and I can be more specific. Given your price point, there are few good options. If you can add $100 or $200, there are far more options. |

Freedom is something you take.
Respect is something you earn. Equality is something you whine about not being given. |

There are no praire dogs in ohio but we do have ground hogs. 200 to 300 yards would be a practicle shot. I think 500 yards is about as far as I would shoot. Thats the max. of the range at the gun club. Plus an AR-15 is not realy like a long range rifle. I am still hoping to keep a scope price around 300 t0 350 but I may be able to find a better scope in the used market or maybe a demo. I was thinking about a millett trs-1 but some reviews I read are not very good in regards to the quality of glass. I would like a scope thats easy to use and have variable focus for close range shooting.
I am planning on taking a two day training course in target shooting, and they also teach proper scope usage along with shooting skills.

Well I know there aren't any prarie dogs in Ohio. (You have to go to THEM!)
Seriously, a lower powered variable should serve you very well.
A used or demo from SWFA's Sample List would give you the most for your bucks.
Don't forget to budget a fair amount for rings.
