Been a while since I have used this site. I couldn't even find any of my old posts lol.

First of all I don't even know if I am capable of making a 1000 yard shot. I hope with some practice that it wont be a issue.

I am going to throw one of these on top of the AR at first. Its still a descent scope for the money, and when I decide to upgrade I still have a spare scope. After building up the reloading supplies, buying the gun, and mags. I will be a little strapped for cash

I don't know how much MOA you need in your optic and how tall of a scope base/riser to be able to hold zero at 200 yards, be able to adjust to 100 yards or less and adjust out to 1000 yards. I understand if the scope I am choosing at first doesn't have capable adjustments to do this but I would like to purchase the scope base/mounts that would more than likely make the next scope I upgrade to for this type of adjustment.  If I bought the Armalite scope mount assembly it says 1.250 from the top of receiver to center of scope rings. That really isn't helping me out.

I am assuming I will need a base/riser for what ever scope I might chose?  Also are any quick detach rings/bases reliable? I would like to have back up iron's without having to remove the whole scope base but if I have to oh well. Should I stick with the Armalite scope mount or look other directions?

Now some questions about a new scope when I decide to upgrade. I want to keep it under $1000.00. I would like side focus if needed. Not sure what focal plane I should be looking at for the optic? I am thinking for sure I want a mil-dot scope. Do you prefer to have mil-rad adjust target knobs or standard moa? One day I hope to have a good range finder but as of right now I don't so I plan on using the mil-dots to my advantage. I am not sure about what power to have the scope in yet. I know when I had my sightron it seemed like it was on the verge of having mirages at 15x on a hot day so I'm guessing 16x will be the max I need? Also I see a lot of people like the SS fixed 10x scope. I am not familiar with fixed power scopes besides the old crappy 4x tasco's I had on my .22's as a kid. What sells a person on fixed power? Would a 10x work good from 100 or less yards out to a 1000? Seems like it would be a little weak at 1000.

Sorry for all the questions. I just don't like buying junk and I turn to the people with experience for suggestions.

Match the reticle to the adjustments.

Under a thousand, the Vortex PST series would work, and you can get FFP.

Take a close look at this scope:

thanks bitterroot. When I look at the scope specs I don't see any stated about the moa adjustment that is allowed with this scope for elevation. Any idea?

Also depending on your scope choice, you can gain by using a 20 MOA base such as this -

http://www.aadmount.com/  These are sold by SWFA too, but when you click on it on the SWFA site it doesn't come up with the right picture.

You might try the ADM mount and base. They are quick release, and come with 20MOA bases as well. They also return to zero if removed and replaced to the same location on the rail.

For a scope I'll recommend the SS 5-20x50
A little out of your price range for a scope, but well worth the extra money, and it will certainly fit your needs, and you may not need the 20MOA base.

Weaver 3-15x50 EMDR is another option FFP illumination. Mine has been flawless and I love the glass. Swfa has the best price on them to. Its a heavy scope but it should be.

Durability and reliability for a given price.  The fixed SS's are far more durable and reliable than competing scopes at their price point historically have been.

Since you can spend more, by all means get a variable.  The 3-15 Weaver mentioned above would be right at the top of my list.  As would the 6-24 PST.  A good deal on a used 5-20 SS would be my first choice at that price.  All in a good 20 MOA mount, of course.    Bandito

Plus 1 on the Weaver.  I sure like mine on a Savage .308 and soon to be tested on an AR 6.5 Grendel build in process.

I like the Super Sniper 5-20x50 mounted with the AAdmount or if a detachable mount the La Rue.  Everyone can shoot 1000 yds but not that many guys can consistently hit what they are shooting at because wind kicks your ass at that distance.

With a 22" barrel at about 2575 ft/sec you will need about 35 moa of adjustment from a 100 yard zero.  My actual dope sheet is 32 moa at 1000 yards.   I've shot to 1000 yards with a fixed 10x SS and with a 22x scope, the 10x was okay for shooting at plates but the 22x made it a whole lot easier.
