Guys, I'd like to mount a shotcam onto my AR-15 (top rifle depicted below). This AR has the typical old fashioned forearm grips and thus can't be used to mount anything on it. Other than a bayonet lug rail, which my rifle does not have, is there something that'll clamp onto the barrel without interfering with use or accuracy? I Like Magpul but I looked around and didn't see anything on the net I could use.

I use a Troy rail on my AR. It's free floated and has served me well.
Easy to install too.

cheaptrick, I appreciate the suggestion but I like the original handguards on my rifle, as long as I can mount a rail on them that will serve accurately & reliably.

frnd, good find, and I do like the simplicity & looks of this rail but I do have minor movement on my handgrips so will that affect accuracy I wonder. Probably not, for laser style shooting.

Sorry, I misread your post.

How about a rail piece for your scope ring? I think you may be able to mount the shot cam to this?

Or...

You'd need to go with SS rings though.

????

You could change your gas block to one that has a rail on the bottom and has your sight on top.  I am going to put the YHM flip up block on my AR build that has the rail on bottom.

True you could go with a quad rail gas block or a flip up with lower rail gas block but you would need to probably have a gunsmith install that where the rail on the lower hand guard should be an easy fix.

Very true Wes.  Going with the bolt on rails your suggested would be the cheapest route to go, and would keep the look he wants.

Guys, I'm afraid the scope rings won't work because the shotcam not only has to be oriented a certain way, i.e. underneath the rifle, but it won't be as user friendly as the bottom handgrip rail. I am sure the shotcam can be mounted 180 deg out of phase but then I would have to find a way (and I'm sure there's a program out there) to invert the video once I transfer it to the computer. Not an imposible task but not preferable.

On the other hand replacing the grips with a rail will be much too expensive for the sheer pleasure of utilizing a shotcam so in my mind at least that's not a viable alternative so myimaginary friend wins this competition Excellent.

I do thank you all for some fine suggestions, I'll post pics when the project has been completed.
