I have a 12X Leupold with an AO. The scope will not focus below 100 yards and the adjustment does not stop at the infinity mark. The 100 yard mark is no where near focused at 100 yards. Is there anything to be done to correct this or should I just forget the yard marks? Thanks for any advice.

If a person with perfect vision were to look thru the scope with the reticle exactly in focus at a target exactly at 100 yds. with the AO set on 100 yds everything would seem to make sense. but-- after moving the rear ocular back or forward depending on near sightedness or farsightedness it changes the relation of the focus to the AO. The important thing is that you can focus on something at about 50 yds regardless of the reading on AO. Personally I used a laser range finder on my AO's to determine the distance (after setting the focus) and then marked them with a colored marker (accuracy was plus or minus of course depending on the distance) . I did this for a while until I found it was just easier to take the range finder.

I contacted Leupold and spoke with a nice customer service lady. She said that some variation is normal (temperature, light, altitude, and phase of the moon would all cause changes)  however if the scope would not focus down to 50 yards that the scope should be sent to them for inspection. So I guess I will need to ship it back to them (it had been there for target knobs) and be gone another 2 weeks but I do want it to be as right as it can be. Thanks for the advice.

Almost every time we take Leupold's in on trade the eye piece will be twisted nearly all the way out. They usually tell us "this is the crappiest scope I have ever had". What's running through our head is "he probably has his eye piece twisted all the way out". Sometimes the lenses will almost be covered in dust and dirt. This is also causing the bad image. When we get them in we clean them up and twist the eye piece in to where there are around four threads showing. After this the scopes are almost good as new. Not to say this could be your problem.

Check your eye piece and clean your lenses. Still having problems just send it to Leupold.
