I am seriously thinking about purchasing on of these scopes (either 1-6 or 1.7-10) and was wondering if anyone has bought one yet.  If so, what are your observations?

Thanks,

Randy

1.7x10 tds on top of next scope list, test in firing one of these a new diavari 3.5x10 and old diavari of my own and a vx7 leo. The swaro blew them all away. was totally amazed at the ability of the scope in the 1.7 to 3 power range for rapid target acquistion of the ar entry carbine variety. if you got the bucks do not hesitate, scope is compact light, fits on the gun well, (not as far back as most euro types). and cures some of the eye box problems present in particularly FFP scopes.

RandyG -

I just looked through the Swaro Z6 1.7-10 and 2-12 over the weekend, as well as some other high-end Zeiss and the latest Leupold VX-7.  Agreed with Dale that the Swarovski is the best. In addition to what has been said, the FOV is truly remarkable.  The only other top end brand that I'd probably want to look through before deciding to spend that kind of $$$ is a Schmidt and Bender...

Mike -

Boy that is close.  Thankfully I haven't had to make that determination yet!  If I were to buy one tomorrow, I would probably go with the 1.7-10.  It's a little lighter and a bit more compact, and it would obviously rest a little lower on the gun with the 42 mm objective compared to the 50 mm objective in the 2-12.  Probably more what I am used to than anything else.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  Now the choice will be the 1-6x24 or the 1.7-10x42.  I'm leaning towards the 1-6 but the 1.7-10 looks promising also.

In my honest opinion I found the 1.7-10 had better optics than the 2-12.

Interesting. Which reticle would you recommend. We grew up with Leupold fine duplexes but since this scope is soooo expensive I want to make the right choice the first time.

Thanks!

the tds was fine enough to do long range work, out to 600 yd, but not as fine as say a 1/8" about the same as the VH on the vx7. the 1.7 was amazing in that it covered so many areas so well, not much larger than the 1-6, but still had the tds for long range (and 10x), yet the over all size was smaller than the 50 without a loss of end magnification (10 vs. 12)

Reticle FYI:

In case anyone is interested, I talked to Swarovski about substituting a different reticle in the Z6 1-6x24 and they said that it would not be a problem.  This model comes with either a 4 or CD reticle and I wanted a 7A or Plex.  They said I could substitute any Swarovski reticle I wish but did not have the pricing yet since the line is so new.  They said to contact them in a month or so and they should have the pricing for the reticle changes then.

Dale would this scope 1.7x10tds be suitable for a rimfire say ranging from 30yds

Thanks

Like kahles, swaro will set the parallex for rimfire, don't know the time frame.

using one as a guide it would work on the lower powers the high would be blurring, but the ranging with the tds would work from about 30 +
