I was just at a yard sale and they had a set of Kurt Muller 8x30 binoculars, it says on them Kurt Muller Optica triple tested,
380 ft at 1,000 yards , serial number is 36394
they come with a leather case.
I took some pics but I can't find how to post them

I see these time to time on the internet auction site.  There were several German named companies that got their binoculars made in Japan.  Some were German too.  You can tell if there is J-B and/or J-E numbers stamped on the objective end of the hinges.  That is a sure sign of Japanese manufacture from the era of inspection to standards set by the Japan Telescopes Inspection Institute (JTII).

The triple tested makes me think they are Japanese.  This is a sales slogan coined and use by David Bushnell, founder of Bushnell.  That meant they were tested at the factory, tested by Bushnell, and tested by the customer.  That evidently seemed a catchy slogan, and it became relatively widely used in several sorts of older Japanese porros.

If it has J-B or J-E numbers, the Japanese optical firms making the glass can be identified.

Glass from that era was actually pretty good, and if in good condition, they can still be used satisfactorily today.  Now having said all that, Muller is a brand from that era I have not seen.

I prefer Porro prism binoculars especially those made in Japan. (i.e. Minox BD 10x44 BP) 8>)
