I am looking for a decent sope for a carry handle mount on an Ar15.  I am looking for a  scope that has the following attributes in order of importance.    It needs to be low power to facilitate close in shooting but I would like to be able to go up to around 4x as well.

I looked at the Burris Xtreme but it is set up for a specific round.  I need some flexibility not to mention the Burris is probably not set up to calibrate with a carry handle mount.

1.  1x - 4x or similar power  (variable, not fixed)
2. Finger adjustable turrets.
3. Mil dot reticle if possible but not 100% neccessary.
4. Relatively compact.
5. Illuminated reticle

I am open to  price but can't spend a grand or more.   Anybody have ideas or what might work well? Nothing seems to fit the bill entirely.  Looked at Leupold II, Busnell 4200,    Meopta and others but nothing jump out at me yet.
Thanks in advance

You could mount the Burris on the carry handle just like any other scope.  And it only takes a ballistic program to figure out where your round is hitting based on that reticle.

I sure wouldn't spent too much money on anything destined to be mounted to a carry handle. I've never run across any serious shooter who really cared for that setup.
I may be wrong, and if so I'd sure like somebody to square me away. You may be better off getting a stripped flattop receiver before you spring for optics...
I think you'll hear a lot of good choices here shortly from those more qualified to give scope specifics than myself.
BTW, bullet drop reticle calibration is relatively unaffected by reasonable mounting height differences, if you do get a good recommendation for a carry handle setup and choose to go that route. Good luck.

I concur. Get a flat top.

If you want to go to a mildot reticle and tactical knobs you need to loose the carry handle upper and put a flat top on there so you can mount with La Rue or Badger Arms mounts.

this mount has two points of attachment. Ultimately though a flat top would be more user friendly.  The best choices for carry handle are the Trijicon ACOG series but they are fixed powers.

4x IOR tactical while not meeting many of the specs you have laid out, is made for what you want to do.  I'd rethink things like finger adjustable stuff on top of a high mounted gun. You have enough brush catcher as it is now.

I guessed that the fltatop suggetion would be prevalent.   I have an M4 style with an Eotech but I just thought I might be able to do something longer range w/ my 20" carry handle model.   I guess I will just save my $$ and look for a flattop upper.

Thanks guys.

Well, if you get as good a mount as the Arms#39 that Urimaginaryfrnd suggested, it would probably work okay. But at $134.00 , you could go a long way toward a stripped flattop upper instead.
Depends on what you want to do with it, I guess...

Open sights are fine but my eyes are getting worse and sometimes it is nice to have a change and use the scope.  I just need reading glasses but it makes it really difficult to focus on the target or the front sight.  One of the other I cna;t see unless I look over my glasses.

I tried years ago to mount a scope to carry handle and at that time the only thing I could find that wouldnt work its way loose was a 4x scope Colt made that had a spring clip on the bolt that kept the bolt from working loose. I would have thought in the last 20 yrs we would have come up with some better solution.  The Trijicons seem to be the  best solution for carry handle. Spendy but nice.
TA33R8 Trijicon 3x30 Acog Rifle Scope Trijicon 3x30 Acog Rifle Scope

just take off the adapter and it will mount to carry handle.
